Getting to Vila Arpoador, Maranhão is the first chapter of the journey. The 343 km between São Luís airport and the fishing village that guards the gateway to the Pequenos Lençóis Maranhenses change character four times before ending on the sand.

There is a New Year's Eve in Brazil where the stage is a dune. From 27 December to 1 January, the fishing village of Vila Arpoador, in Tutóia, Maranhão, hosts Festival Duna: six days of celebration for no more than 300 guests, set between the dunes of the Pequenos Lençóis Maranhenses and the waters of the Parnaíba Delta.

The shortest route to Vila Arpoador arrives from the east. It is 134 km from Parnaíba airport, in Piauí, to the fishing village at the gateway to the Pequenos Lençóis Maranhenses: 121 km of tarmac to Tutóia and a final 13 km along the beach by 4x4.

Preá and Vila Arpoador share the same coastline and the same wind. Between them lie Camocim, the coast of Piauí and the Parnaíba Delta, and this very stretch makes the route one of the most beautiful in north-eastern Brazil, by land or on the water.

Twice a year, in August and November, a group lands in São Luís with a shared goal: to learn to kitesurf, or finally break through to the next level, in one of the most consistent wind corridors on the planet.
